Madheshi Community in Victoria Celebrates Chhath Puja Triumph

The Madheshi Community in Victoria (MCV) concluded a vibrant and joyous celebration of Chhath Puja in Melbourne on the 20th of November, Monday morning. This marked a significant cultural event that brought together devotees and supporters from diverse backgrounds. Dr. Surendra Rauniyar, President of the Madheshi Community in Victoria, extended heartfelt gratitude to all involved in the resounding success of Chhath-2023.

The event, held at the Australian Nepalese Multicultural Centre (ANMC)’s land, welcomed esteemed guests such as Ms. Kathleen Matthews-Ward, MP for Broadmeadows, Mr. Chandra Yonzon, Consulate General of Nepal to Victoria, Mr. Trung Luu, Member for Western Metropolitan Region, and other dignitaries. Their presence enhanced the celebration, fostering unity and cultural exchange.

The success of the event owed much to the collaboration among dedicated volunteers and executive team members, spearheaded by coordinators Aryan Raut and Gopal Shah. Their meticulous planning and execution ensured a seamlessly organized event.

The celebration featured talented performers whose contributions enriched the cultural beauty of the celebration, adding vibrancy and depth.
During the event, Ms. Kathleen Matthews-Ward praised the rich heritage of the Nepali community and expressed her delight in attending such programs, citing the warmth and inclusivity of the people. The Consul General emphasized the unity fostered by this celebration, acknowledging Chhath as a pivotal Nepali festival for the community
In conclusion, Dr. Rauniyar expressed immense gratitude to enthusiastic participants, sponsors, media houses, and community supporters, highlighting their indispensable role in elevating the Chhath Puja celebration to international significance.

Chhath, a revered festival, involves a two-day puja worshipping the sun, observed by offering prayers during sunset and continuing through to the following day’s sunrise. Devotees express gratitude, seeking blessings for prosperity, health, and well-being from the cosmic energy of the sun. This age-old tradition holds deep cultural significance, uniting communities in reverence and celebration.
